Homebound Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist is a most sacred duty and responsibility, and we must be reverent of the Blessed Sacrament. The ministers approved to participate in this ministry will visit our parishioners who are homebound, living in a care facility or hospital.
This is a ministry that requires that you are a Catholic in good standing and have received approval by the pastor to participate in this ministry. Upon approval by the pastor, the volunteer must complete the online Diocesan Safe Environment training program and a background check will also be conducted. These two processes must be completed every five years to continue working in this ministry.
Upon completion of these two processes, the pastor will submit your name to the bishop for approval and upon approval the pastor will commission you during a Mass. The bishop’s approval and pastor commissioning must be conducted every three years. After all of these processes are complete the leader or this ministry will conduct a brief training class to describe the actual visit and answer your questions.
The visitation assignments will be given to you either by the ministry leader or pastor. All visitations must be approved either by the pastor or an employee appointed by the pastor. The leader of this ministry may accompany you on your first visit.
